Stephanie Kelton is a professor of economics and public policy at Stony Brook University. She is a leading expert on Modern Monetary Theory and a former Chief Economist on the U.S. Senate Budget Committee (Democratic staff). She was named by POLITICO as one of the 50 people most influencing the policy debate in America. Professor Kelton advises policymakers and consults with investment banks, and portfolio managers across the globe. She is a regular commentator on national radio and broadcast television. Her highly-anticipated book, The Deficit Myth, will be published June 9, 2020.
Denise Chamberlain is the EVP/CFO of Edward-Elmhurst Health in Chicago, a $1.5B healthcare system with 10,000 employees. After beginning her career at Arthur Andersen’s world-wide headquarters for healthcare in Dallas, TX, Denise has spent more than 30 years in hospital and healthcare finance covering the spectrum of enterprise sizes and structures, including for profit, not for profit, privately held, publicly traded, tax subsidized, acute, specialty, and Academic Medical Centers. She holds an undergraduate degree in accounting from Purdue University, a Masters degree in Adult Education, and is a CPA. Ms. Chamberlain is also the author of “Money to Care: Hospital Finance for Non-Financial Leaders” and has taught and spoken across the country to all levels of healthcare leaders including staff, physicians, and board members.
Vince Ryan is responsible for all editorial content appearing in CFO’s online, mobile, and print operations as well as new editorial content development across all Argyle Executive Forum brands. He has more than 30 years of experience reporting and writing on corporate finance, banking, and information technology for publications such as PC/Computing, Upside, and Telephony, where he won a feature-writing award from the American Society of Business Publication Editors. Prior to joining CFO in 2007, he was managing editor at Royal Media Group, where he launched newsletters and conferences targeted to financial services executives. David McCann is Deputy Editor of CFO magazine and CFO.com. Since joining CFO in 2007, he has written extensively about human capital, finance technology, investor relations, accounting, capital markets, and other corporate finance topics. He previously was Editor-in-Chief of MeetingNews from 1995 to 2006 and Executive Managing Editor of Business Travel News from 1986 to 1995.
A senior vice president with Edelman’s Crisis & Risk Management practice, Jamie Singer provides issue management, crisis preparedness and crisis communications counsel to clients across an array of industries, including food & beverage, higher education, technology, health care and consumer products. She provides strategic counsel and support to companies facing reputational risks including data security & privacy issues, human safety and health concerns, product quality issues and executive transitions. Jamie’s expertise includes leading risk and vulnerability assessments, crisis plan and playbook development, as well as crisis trainings and simulations. As part of Edelman’s Data Security & Privacy Team, Jamie has led breach response efforts for one of the largest insurers in the U.S. as well as other companies in the health care, retail, higher education and technology industries. She also works with clients to enhance their data security & privacy crisis preparedness through plan and process development. Jamie has presented at numerous data security and privacy-focused conferences – including SANS’ Data Breach Summit and HIMSS– and has authored bylines on cybersecurity communications topics. Prior to joining Edelman, Jamie served as the Assistant Director of Internal Communications at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. At Kellogg, Jamie led development and execution of the school’s internal communications program as well as the school’s crisis communications planning efforts. Prior to Kellogg, Jamie worked in Cone Communications’ Crisis Prevention and Management Group. At Cone, she supported risk analysis and mitigation, communications strategy, message and materials development, as well as media relations for clients including Nestle Waters North America, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and General Mills. Prior to Cone, Jamie worked at FTI Consulting, performing crisis and issues management work for clients in industries ranging from entertainment/gaming to health care IT to professional services. Steven A. Bourne, CPA, is a finance and accounting professional with a passion for working with innovative, early-stage life science companies. He joined Clarus Therapeutics in February 2004 and currently serves as Chief Financial Officer, Secretary and Treasurer. His career has spanned more than two and a half decades, amassing deep financial leadership expertise for specialty pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device companies. Prior to Clarus Therapeutics, he served as Chief Financial Officer, Secretary and Treasurer at Anagen Therapeutics and Treasurer, Secretary and Controller at Aksys, a public medical device company. Mr. Bourne holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Miami University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Brenna Albert is Senior Vice President & Controller at Cresco Labs, a publicly traded multi-state U.S. cannabis operator. In her role, she oversees all accounting, reporting, treasury, and tax functions at the company. Brenna is a seasoned leader in SEC reporting, technical accounting and policy, corporate accounting, and project management, and was formerly with Cushman & Wakefield, with previous accounting and finance roles at global Fortune 500 companies. She also has a proven track record of building world-class teams and processes for an organization making the transition from a private to a public company.
Joe oversees all finance and accounting for Kindred Behavioral Health, including managing revenue cycle, healthcare information technology, and M&A and development. He also is responsible for identifying beneficial policies, procedures and operational efforts, and analyzing organizational areas for improvement. Joe previously worked as Divisional Chief Financial Officer for behavioral health services provider Acadia Healthcare, Inc., where he supervised the financial operations of more than a dozen facilities, including DeNovo’s, across nine states over the past three-plus years. For the 6 years prior to Acadia, Joe was a Regional Director of Finance at Universal Health Services, a market leader in behavioral health facilities. In this role, he led financial operations of up to 23 facilities across 10 states. While at UHS Joe was involved with Government Relations and Medicaid Reform initiatives. His experience also includes service as the CFO of a 162-bed psychiatric hospital and as CFO at hospitals operated by HCA. Joe has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Southern Illinois University and a MBA from The Keller Graduate School of Management.
Dr. Mark L. Frigo is founder of the Center for Strategy, Execution and Valuation and the Strategic Risk Management Lab in the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University in Chicago where he directs ongoing research on the strategy and value creating innovation at high performing companies. His latest research is focused on strategic valuation in the new economy and the role of intangibles, including brands, in creating long term value. He is the Ezerski Endowed Chaired Professor of Strategy and Leadership Emeritus at DePaul. Author of seven books and over 125 articles, his work is published in leading business journals including Harvard Business Review. Dr. Frigo is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and holds a Ph.D. in Econometrics. He is author of the best-selling book DRIVEN: Business Strategy, Human Actions and the Creation of Wealth which is used by executives, boards and management teams to drive superior value creating performance, Creating and Protecting Value: Understanding and Implementing ERM (COSO 2020) a guide for CFOs and board members for assessing and managing strategic risk and a forthcoming book with Stanford University Press DRIVEN STRATEGY: Creating Greater Long-Term Sustainable Value. Dr. Frigo has conducted valuations of companies including the Chicago Board of Trade and a number of companies in merger and acquisition transactions. Dr. Frigo is an advisor to CEOs, CFOs, executive teams and boards at Fortune 500 companies in strategy and strategic valuation and in developing innovation strategies which drive superior long-term sustainable value-creating performance. Nestor Eliadis joined The Instant Group at the start of 2020 as the COO/ CFO, Americas. An accomplished real estate professional with more than 20 years of experience in corporate real estate and finance; real estate consulting and brokerage; project management and architecture, Eliadis most recently served at Walgreen Co. for nine years in the real estate and finance divisions. During his tenure there, he led real estate for more than 3,500 operating assets; 1,000 idle dispositions; $2 billion in sale-leasebacks; multiple organizational transformations; the acquisition of nearly 2,000 properties; and scaled finance programs totaling more than $4 billion in operating expenses, $1 billion in capital expenses, and $150 million in cost reductions annually. Eliadis leads operations and finance for The Instant Group in the Americas, a fast-growing region for the global firm. He is based in the firm’s growing Chicago office.
Prior to joining Abundant Venture Partners as CFO, Ben held increasingly senior operating roles at multiple healthcare companies. He was the COO at United Dental Partners, a fast-growing group dental practice. Before UDP, Ben was a member of the management team and Vice President of Business Development and Strategy at SA Ignite, the leading SaaS healthcare data analytics company helping health systems maximize value-based reimbursement by improving performance in quality programs such as MACRA, MIPS, PQRS and Meaningful Use. Prior to becoming an operating executive, Ben spent 10 years in Chicago and New York as a principal private equity investor, with WHI Capital Partners and RoundTable Healthcare Partners and in investment banking roles with Morgan Stanley and William Blair. Ben holds a BBA from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. His British wife, Jude, keeps him in line and his three young boys keep him on his toes at home in Chicago.
